The Arena da Palavra Literary Festival was an event that shook up São Paulo's literary scene. With the participation of 20 street bookshops, the festival offered a diverse program, curated by writer Marcelino Freire (Balada Literária), Claudiney Ferreira (Certas Palavras), publisher Cecília Arbolave (Lote 42) and Marcelo Sollero, the producer in charge of Polo Cultural. During the event, we had panel discussions with special guests, tributes to great names in our literature and also slam battles with five spoken word poetry collectives from the city.

With the aim of disseminating literary and cultural diversity, the Pole has already held several slam battles, including workshops for young poets. We've also held the Tâmaras - Poesias para depois de amanhã competition, a project that included the participation of poets of different ages from all over Brazil and which rewarded its winners with the publication of their books. The competitions and workshops thus contributed to the educational training of poets, spectators and visitors, encouraging learning through culture, poetry and literature.
The world of art and literature revealed by writers, poets, publishers, booksellers, slam battles and so many other agents of the written and spoken word. This is the area in which Arena da Palavra's projects operate.
As part of the Polo Cultural, the Arena project is home to three unique experiences: the Literary Festival, which takes place in street bookshops and offers inspiring activities such as slam battles, literary debates and book launches; the interview program, which highlights writers, publishers, booksellers and other literary agents, revealing their stories and experiences; and the Date Competition and slam workshops, an opportunity for free poetic expression for young people from all over Brazil, stimulating creativity and a love of reading.
